The band is getting back together
Good news guys, producer Simon Kinberg has just told the media that he plans to start shooting the sequel to the massively successful Deadpool movie in early next year.
And thankfully both Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, and director Tim Miller will return.
The original screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, are currently working the script, so everything should remain at a similarly high level to the first movie.
It does make sense to keep the original team together; it would be foolish to mess with a format that so clearly works, right?
Miller previously explained that Fox are easing the pressure and allowing him to take the time to create the kind of film that he wants to, without worrying about deadlines or release dates:
“None of the times that have been under discussion have made me go, ‘Oh no, you’re going to make me do something horrible just to meet that [release date]. They want it to be great, and they’re giving us the time to make it great.”
In the interview with Collider, he stated that he also believes that he can do even better the second time around, which is a surprise considering the level of praise the first movie has received. You have to hand it to the guy for aiming high at least.
“I look at it and go, ‘Oh, God, there’s so much stuff I could do better.’”
But I say just give yourself a break, man. The first movie was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time, and possibly more enjoyable than.. Dare I say it, The Dark Knight?
Maybe. I guess time will tell, if it’s re-watch value doesn’t slip.
Anyway, obviously we’re hyper-excited about the sequel and it can’t come soon enough.
